Clarkston volleyball overpowers Deer Park

October 21, 2011

Deer Park outside hitter Ciera Sitton tries to find a hole past Clarkston defender Kayla Purcell during action on Thursday.

The Clarkston Bantams, relying on strong net play, swept Deer Park 25-15, 25-15, 25-18 in the Lady Stags’ 2011 home finale on Thursday.
The win improved Clarkston’s Great Northern League record to 8-3, while Deer Park fell to 4-7.
In the first game, the Bantams jumped out to a 10-6 lead. A Jamie Weisner kill stretched Clarkston’s lead to 14-7. A kill by the Lady Stags’ Ciera Sitton trimmed the lead to 21-13 but the Bantams rolled the rest of the way.
Neither team could separate from the other during the early part of game two. An ace by Clarkston’s Rachel Folsom tied the match at 10-10. Folsom served three more points as the Bantams began to pull away. Two more kills by Weisner sealed the win.
The third game played much like the second. A kill by Deer Park’s Kimmie Brazington tied the game at 9-9.
A Folsom ace was followed by a KC McConnell kill and another Folsom ace as Clarkston took a 14-11 lead. The rest of the game belong to Clarkston sophomore middle hitter Katie Manning, who registered most of her game-high six blocks to close out the match.
Brazington and McConnell shared game-high kill honors with 11 apiece.
