Clarkston goes the distance to get past Lady Stags

October 12, 2012

Deer Park's Siera English (30) goes up for a block against Clarkston's Kimmie Henriod during Thursday's Great Northern League match.

In a match with deep playoff implications, the Clarkston volleyball team defeated Deer Park 5-19, 22-25, 19-25, 25-9, 15-8 on Thursday.
The win improved the Lady Bantams’ Great Northern League record to 2-8 while the Lady Stags fell to 1-8.
Clarkston grabbed a quick lead in the first game. A Sierra English kill trimmed the Lady Bantam lead to 9-7. A pair of Jemma Lakewolf kills kept Deer Park close only to have Clarkston close out the game with late kills by Tori Zeimantz and Adriana Arnone.
The second game started as a seesaw affair with Deer Park taking a 9-8 lead on a Larissa Bitton kill. An English kill gave the Lady Stags a 12-10 advantage only to have the Lady Bantams respond with kills from twin middle blocker/hitters Kimmie and Kasie Henriod.
A Bitton block gave Deer Park a 20-19 lead. Her net play was followed by another block from Ciera Sitton and a kill from Zoey Mohr to even the match at a game apiece.
A pair of blocks by Kimmie Henriod gave Clarkston an 11-10 lead in the third game only to have Deer Park regain the advantage at 18-15 following a kill by Lakewolf and a block by Emily Timme.
The Lady Bantams helped the Lady Stag cause with three serves into the net.
A late kill by English secured the third game win for Deer Park.
Siera English added a block early in the fourth game only to have Clarkston respond with 15-4 run. The Lady Bantams’ charge was keyed by the dominating net play by the Henriod sisters. The Lady Bantams closed out the game with an ace by Kayla Snyder and a kill by Zeimantz.
The deciding game started much like the fourth with the Lady Bantams jumping out to a 6-2 lead. A Lakewolf kill trimmed the Clarkston lead to 7-5 but the Deer Park squad could not get any closer as the Lady Bantams quickly closed out the match.
