January 4, 2012

Deer Park's Colton Mead looks for a way past Medical Lake defender Kendyl Dunn.

The Medical Lake Cardinals, using a 13-3 third quarter run, defeated the Deer Park Stags 57-45 on Tuesday in the Great Northern League opener for both schools.
The win improved the Cardinals’ overall record to 4-5, the same mark as the Stags. The loss was Deer Park’s 13th straight in GNL play.
The Cardinals, who led 30-29 at halftime, scored the first five points on the third quarter.
A Colton Mead three-pointer broke a five-minute scoring drought by the Stags, only to see the Cardinals go on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 43-32.
Mead hit another three pointer to trim the Medical Lake lead to 43-35 with the minute left in the third quarter.
The Stags’ shooting woes continued in the fourth quarter as Deer Park hit only two shots in the game’s final eight minutes.
Mead led the Stags with 12 points, while Adam Paulson, who hit four three-pointers, paced the Cardinals with 14 points.
