Balanced attack carries Lady Stags to season opening win

December 2, 2011

Deer Park's Alison Ruygrok helped spearhead the Lady Stag defensive effort on Thursday.

The Deer Park girls basketball team, paced by four players in double figures, easily dispatched the Chewelah Cougars 61-32 on Thursday in the season opener for both schools.
The Lady Stags wasted little time taking control of the game, building a 10-2 lead in the first couple of minutes. The margin grew to 28-8 midway through the second quarter on Alison Ruygrok’s second three-pointer of the game. A Kimmie Brazington put-back gave the Lady Stags a 44-18 lead just before halftime.
“I like our energy,” said Deer Park head coach Kevin Oglesbee on this his team’s opening game performance. “I like how well we played together.”
Deer Park started the second half cold but the Cougars could not make any headway into the 27-point halftime deficit.
The Lady Stags spent the fourth quarter working on their offensive sets while the Chewelah squad got a late offensive spark from guard Brittney Wuesthoff, who tossed in seven points in the game’s final eight minutes.
Ruygrok and Tessa Heins led the Lady Stags with 13 points apiece while newcomer Danielle Beltrame added 12 more and Zoey Mohr chipped in with 11.
Wuesthoff and Ryann Richmond led the Cougars with nine points apiece.
