Adelbert A. Johnson, 64

August 19, 2011

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the Clayton Community Church followed with interment in the Williams Valley Cemetery with military honors and flag presentation by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard for former Clayton resident Adelbert A. “Del” Johnson, 64, who passed away on Aug. 10 in Bellevue, Wash.
Born in Clayton to Evelyn and Roy Johnson, he graduated from Deer Park High in 1966, (leaving with extra credits because he loved school so much.)
After graduation, he joined the Navy. He received the National Defense Service Medal and a Bronze Star during his time in the armed forces.
Mr. Johnson was proud of his time spent as a teacher both in the military and in one of his first jobs as a civilian. He later worked for the Xerox Corp. as one of their most valued technicians for 30 years. Prior to this, he supplemented his family's income during their military days working at Pizza Hut.
He retired from Xerox in December 2010, preferring the "daily grind" of tractors and backhoes while he developed the property next to his house.
He was also known as a cowboy and had the belt buckles, hats and boots to prove it. He was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Johnson was living in North Bend, Wash.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Johnson; two daughters, Nancee Johnson and Teresa (Teri) Zepp; his mother, Evelyn Johnson, one sister, Marianna (Sis) Sasser and one brother, Murdock (Doc) Johnson.
Lauer Funeral Home, Deer Park, will be in charge of arrangements.
