Fast-starting Lady Rams hold off KF Bulldogs

The Riverside girls basketball team got back on the winning track with a 49-35 win over Kettle Falls on Tuesday.
The Lady Rams, who dropped two Northeast A League games last week, opened up a 11-0 lead over the Bulldogs and then held off a couple of Kettle Falls attempts to catch up.
Kettle Falls cut the lead to 14-8 by the end of the first quarter only to have Riverside go on a 10-4 run. The Lady Rams led 26-15 at halftime before the roof started to cave in on both teams, literally.

Inside game gets Stags past the Rams

The Deer Park Stags got nine points from Canyon Nielson and Travis Pierce in the final 3 minutes to edge the Riverside Rams 47-45 on Tuesday.
The Stags saw their lead trimmed to 39-38 on a basket by Riverside center Jeff Reed with 2:59 to play. Deer Park responded with baskets by Nielson and Pierce only to have Ram guard Andrew Kramer hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 43-41 with 2 minutes to play.
Nielson hit another basket and a free throw to extend the Stag lead to 46-41. Kramer and Reed responded with baskets of their own but the Rams could not get any closer.

Lady Rams speed past Deer Park counterparts

What Riverside’s Hannah Holm started, she finished on Tuesday night.
The senior scored the first basket of the game against Deer Park. The hoop put the Lady Rams a head 2-0, a lead they would never relinquish. Holm scored the final basket of the game to secure the 51-23 win.
Following Holm’s first basket, the Lady Rams, using a suffocating defense rolled out to an 18-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Riverside head coach Buddy Wood was pleased with the intensity his team showed at the start of the game.

Well balanced attack keys Stags to first season win

The Deer Park Stags, unleashing a balanced attack, easily handled the Medical Lake Cardinals 66-50 on Friday.
It was the Stags’ first win in four tries this season. The Cardinals fell to 2-2.
Four Stags scored in double figures, led by point guard Caleb Guske, who tossed in 18 points, 15 of them in the second half.
Guske scored the first basket of the game and the Stags never trailed the rest of the way.

Lady Stags find some offense but still fall to Cards

Medical Lake’s Becky Trout snapped a 28-28 fourth quarter tie with a three-pointer and the Cardinal defense shut down the Deer Park offense rest of the way to pull out a 35-31 win on Friday.
The Lady Stags, despite having their best offensive performance of the year, were limited to a Savanna Sitton free throw and field goal in the final 6:28 as they fell to 0-4 on the young season.
Deer Park head coach Chuck Chaffee said his team is getting used to play together.
The Lady Stags led 21-16 at halftime, the first time this season they led at intermission.

Stags get by Cards in wrestling season opener

The Deer Park Stags, who got a major decision from Aaron Klauder and a pin from Jake Konzal, held off the Orting Cardinals 44-35 in Friday’s battle of state wrestling champions.
The Stags, the five-time Class 2A champs, took a 28-23 Billy Marshall defeated Andrew Melot in the 285-pound match. Deer Park got some breathing room after Tysen Jorgensen received a forfeit in the 106-pound match.
Orting, the four-time Class 1A champs, narrowed the lead to 34-29 in the 113-pound bout after defending state champ Fred Green only needed a minute to pin KC Ayers.

Battle of Champs: DP grapplers entertain Orting

The Deer Park wrestling team opens its season this week with a match-up of a pair of 2012 state team champions.
The Stags, the five-time defending Class 2A champs, will entertain Orting on 6 p.m. on Friday.
The Cardinals, who have moved up to the Class 2A ranks this season, are four-time defending Class 1A champs. Last year's team featured (all returning) Fred Green, the 106-pound champion, Austin Dodson, the runner-up at 113 pounds, and Beau Gore, the runner-up at 145 pounds.
In addition to its state title run, Orting finished second the three previous seasons.

Knights put an end to Stags' season

The Deer Park Stags could not run and eventually could not hide from the East Valley Knights in Thursday’s Great Northern League regular season finale for both teams.
The Stags, who only had one run over more than 9 yards in the game (a 35-yard run by Dalton Hanson in the fourth quarter), could not catch the Knights 35-24.
The loss eliminated the Stags (3-3 in the GNL, 6-4 overall)) from state playoff consideration. East Valley (4-2, 7-3) was eliminated later in the evening after Colville upset league-leading Pullman.

Clarkston goes the distance to get past Lady Stags

In a match with deep playoff implications, the Clarkston volleyball team defeated Deer Park 5-19, 22-25, 19-25, 25-9, 15-8 on Thursday.
The win improved the Lady Bantams’ Great Northern League record to 2-8 while the Lady Stags fell to 1-8.
Clarkston grabbed a quick lead in the first game. A Sierra English kill trimmed the Lady Bantam lead to 9-7. A pair of Jemma Lakewolf kills kept Deer Park close only to have Clarkston close out the game with late kills by Tori Zeimantz and Adriana Arnone.

Freeman spikers sweep Riverside

October 4, 2012

The Freeman Scotties, staking claim as the top volleyball team in the Northeast A League, took care of the Riverside Lady Rams 25-10, 25-20, 25-18 on Thursday.
The Scotties, behind three kills from Kaela Straw, opened up a 10-1 lead in the first game.
Riverside (5-4 in NE-A play) made a brief run with three straight points behind the serving of Courtney Davis. Freeman, (7-1) however, responded with six straight points to stretch the Scottie lead to 16-5.
Two aces by Straw gave the Scotties a 20-7 lead and were never threatened the rest of the game.
