A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Oct. 21 in the Riverside High School multi-purpose room for longtime Riverside School District teacher Thomas M. McClure, 58, who passed away on Sept. 25.
Born on Nov. 28, 1952, in Casper, Wy., to the late Harold M. McClure and Lorraine M. Hartman, he attended Tracy Joint Union High School in Tracy, Calif., and graduated in 1970. He was quarterback and captain of the football team and also an outstanding wrestler. He won the Tracy Booster Club and Teachers Education School awards in high school.
A memorial service and reception was held on Oct. 14 at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, for former Deer Park resident Walter E. Peak, 81.
Born on Nov. 25, 1929, to Paul and Alice Peak, he graduated from Deer Park High School in 1947 and joined the U.S. Navy where he served four years. He worked at Kaiser Aluminum Co., where he traveled to Germany, Wales, England, West Virginia and Louisiana as a trouble-shooter. He retired as a general foreman at the age of 52.
October 13th
Construction on a new interchange at Parksmith Road gets under way this month, a milestone that signals traffic and safety improvements are nearly complete on the northern five miles of the new North Spokane Corridor.
When complete, the interchange, located between Francis Avenue and Farwell Road, will provide convenient access to retail and residential areas in the Mead community, as well as the nearby commercial and industrial properties along the new transportation corridor.

The Deer Park volleyball team staged a pair of comebacks to defeat Medical Lake 25-15, 25-29, 25-23 in Great Northern League action on Tuesday.
The Lady Stags, who broke open a 10-10 tie to easily win the first game, fell behind early in the second game. An ace by the Cardinals Raquel Alsept game Medical Lake a 16-8 lead before the Lady Stags made their move.
Zoey Mohr’s kill through a pair of Cardinal blockers gave Deer Park a 20-19 lead. An ace by Haley Wainwright gave the Lady Stags some breathing room at 22-20 and they cruised the rest of the way.

The East Valley Knights wasted little time delivering its best shot Friday against Deer Park with two first quarter touchdowns.
It, however, was the Stags who delivered the knockout punch with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to secure a 42-25 win.
The victory improved the Stags’ Great Northern League record to 2-1 (5-1 overall), while East Valley fell to 1-1, 3-3.
“If we’re going to win the league title, we had to win this game,” said Stag head coach Keith Stamps, who saw his team lose a heartbreaker to Cheney the previous week.
A gathering will held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 15 at the Russell Booher home, N42107 Franz Road, Elk, followed by funeral services at 4 p.m. at the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall, N1802 Raymond Road, Spokane Valley, with Steve Crosby speaking, for former Elk area resident Stella L. Nestoss, 52, who passed away on Oct. 6 in Spokane.
Born in 1959 to the late Eldon and Helen Verdel Booher, she graduated from Riverside High School in 1977 and was later employed as a housekeeper at Sacred Heart Medical Center, Spokane, and at Zip’s Drive-In on north Division.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 14 at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel, N7200 Wall St. Spokane, for former Deer Park resident Karen L. Myrick, 67, who passed away on Sept. 17.
Raised in Milwaukee, Wis., she spent her summers playing on Lake Michigan with her sister, Patricia. In 1958, she moved with her family to Spokane, where she attended Rogers High School. She and her husband, Neil, moved to Deer Park in 1979.
Karen was preceded in death by her grandmother, Alice Steffes, her mother, Audrey Brickner, and stepfather, Gregory Brickner.
Deer Park’s taxable retail sales continue to take a sharp dip, according to statistics supplied by the Department of Revenue.
According to Department of Revenue statistics, Deer Park generated $16 million in retail sales from April-June 2011 as compared to $18.2 million for the same period in 2010, an 11.9 percent drop.
Deer Park’s recent downspin followed a 32 percent drop in the second quarter of 2010 as compared to the second quarter of 2009.
Springdale’s retail sales dropped 26.7 percent from $717,452 to $525,420.
October 5th
Sheila R. Hoover passed away on Sept. 24, 2011, at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
She was born on July 3, 1966, to Donna Boardman. She was a hardworking woman who always gave a helping hand when needed.
She will be remembered for her smile, laugh and humor. She had interests including horseback riding, gardening, reading, singing, sewing and beadwork. She was very creative, artistic and had a sweet, innocent spirit about her.
Gov. Chris Gregoire announced on Monday that she will appoint Patrick Monasmith to the Superior Court serving Stevens, Pend Oreille and Ferry counties. Monasmith is a former court commissioner for Stevens County, and has extensive experience in private practice.
He will fill the judgeship being vacated by the retirement of Rebecca Baker.
