Rams take care of Goats, head to regionals

It understandable if the Chelan Mountain Goats never but heads again this season with the Riverside Rams.
The Mountain Goats, which saw their football state championship aspirations disappear with an opening round playoff loss to the Rams in November, saw the same fate befall their boys basketball team on Saturday.
The Rams, who never trailed in the loser-out bi-district playoff game, eliminated the Goats 39-28. Riverside (20-5) will head to regional playoff action next weekend.

Strong fourth quarter carries Stags past Eagles

The Deer Park Stags got a rebound basket by Travis Pierce and three free throws to hold off the West Valley Eagles 52-45 on Friday.
The Eagles had cut the Stags’ lead to 47-45 on a three-point play by Brennen Folkins with 1:19 to play. Pierce answered with a put-back basket and Deer Park iced the game with free throws by Canyon Nielson, Avery Miller and Nathan Guske.
The win improved the Stags’ Great Northern League record to 2-5 and 6-9 overall. West Valley fell to 3-3, 10-4.

Colville squeezes past Deer Park in wrestling showdown

The Colville wrestling team, which has spent the past two years chasing the Deer Park Stags, finally caught its Great Northern League rival on Wednesday.
The Indians, the top ranked Class 2A team in the state, got a first period pin from 113-pound Alex Linn to defeat the Stags 38-32.
It was a match where neither team could build any sizeable lead.
The Indians’ biggest lead of 20-14 came after Ryley Smith defeated Jacob Boswell in the 182-pound match. The Stags’ biggest lead of 26-20 came when 195-pound Trevor Eicher, making his season debut, needed only 37 seconds to pin Spencer Frank.

Fast-starting Stags best Blackhawks

The Deer Park Stags built an early 16-0 lead on their way to a 44-30 Great Northern League wrestling win over Cheney on Wednesday.
Tysen Jorgensen got the ball rolling with first period pin over Sam Hobbs in the 126-pound match. His victory was followed by a 13-3 win by Dean Lockwood over the Blackhawks’ Cameron Wiseman and a first-period pin by Brandon Field over Francisco Martinez.
Cheney narrowed the margin to 28-18 before 220-pound Cody Devore scored a pin of Jacob Hill to give Deer Park an almost insurmountable lead.
