The Deer Park Stags, helped by five Nate Guske free throws in the fourth quarter, slid past Chewelah 61-57 on Tuesday.

The Stags, runners-up at last seasonâ€™s state championship, jumped out to a 22-0 lead thanks to a 9-1 win by defending state champion Joe Grable over Michael Moniz, another Mat Classic veteran, in the 152-pound match-up and a first period pin by 171-pound Jason Aebischer.
