June 15th
Deer Park assistant football coach Zac Farnam has left the program to take the head varsity job at Newport High School.
Farnam, a 2002 DPHS graduate, had been part of Stag head coach Keith Stamps’ staff for the past six years.
He takes over a Grizzly program that went 7-3 last season.
Farnam’s departure will also leave holes in the Stags’ boys basketball and baseball teams, as he served as an assistant coach with both programs.

Hunters who submitted applications for 2012 special-hunt permits can check the results of this year’s drawing on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) website.
The results of the random, computerized drawing were verified June 8 and are available at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/wa/specialhuntlookup. Holders of the special permits can hunt at times and locations beyond those authorized by a general hunting license.
Riverside High School seniors Derrick Bender and Kati McKinney were named the winners of the Fred Safford Award, honoring tschool year’s top athletes.
Bender earned All-Northeast A League honors on the football field last fall and won the state 210-pound Class A wrestling championship in February.
McKinney, who earned All-NEA softball honors this spring, was also a member of the Lady Rams’ volleyball team.
June 8th
Three-sport Deer Park High School sports standouts Zach Mohr and Kimmie Brazington were named the winners of the Max Sanchez Award as the top athletes for the 2011-12 school year.
Mohr, who earned All-Great Northern League honors in football last fall. He was also a member of the basketball (he was an All-GNL player as a junior) and baseball teams, where he threw the first no-hitter at the school in more than a decade.
