Battle of Champs: DP grapplers entertain Orting

November 27, 2012

The Deer Park wrestling team opens its season this week with a match-up of a pair of 2012 state team champions.
The Stags, the five-time defending Class 2A champs, will entertain Orting on 6 p.m. on Friday.
The Cardinals, who have moved up to the Class 2A ranks this season, are four-time defending Class 1A champs. Last year's team featured (all returning) Fred Green, the 106-pound champion, Austin Dodson, the runner-up at 113 pounds, and Beau Gore, the runner-up at 145 pounds.
In addition to its state title run, Orting finished second the three previous seasons.

Knights put an end to Stags' season

November 3, 2012

The Deer Park Stags could not run and eventually could not hide from the East Valley Knights in Thursday’s Great Northern League regular season finale for both teams.
The Stags, who only had one run over more than 9 yards in the game (a 35-yard run by Dalton Hanson in the fourth quarter), could not catch the Knights 35-24.
The loss eliminated the Stags (3-3 in the GNL, 6-4 overall)) from state playoff consideration. East Valley (4-2, 7-3) was eliminated later in the evening after Colville upset league-leading Pullman.
