The Deer Park girls basketball team, using a 10 for 14 free throw shooting performance in the fourth quarter, defeated the Pullman Greyhounds 51-42 on Friday.
The Lady Stags (2-0 in Great Northern League play), led 35-27 going into the fourth quarter, only to see the Greyhounds (0-2) cut the margin to 40-37 with 4 minutes to play.
Deer Park responded with a free throw and basket by Tessa Heins and two more free throws from Danielle Beltrame to extend the lead to 45-37 with 1:40 to play.
The Pullman Greyhounds, using their height advantage and timely outside shooting, rolled past the Deer Park Stags 68-42 on Friday.
The Greyhounds, who led 31-25 at halftime, went on a 14-2 run in the first 3:30 minutes of the first quarter to put the game out of reach.
While 6-foot-6 Corey Landerveld, who finished with 17 points, did most of his damage around the basket, guards Austin Blake and Brady Barrett did their work from long range. The pair combined for 28 points.
