No slowing down Deer Park's Eicher

Deer Park High School sophomore Trevor Eicher, who steam rolled the 182-pound competition in winning the state Class 2A title at Mat Classic XXVI in February, has not slowed down this spring.
Eicher has won four more titles in the past two months, including the prestigious Reno Worlds last week.
In March, Eicher, representing the Deer Park Ironman Wrestling Club, won the 195-pound junior title at the Twin City-3 Styles Greco Tournament in Chellis, Wash. He dispatched his four opponents by a combined 42-6 score.

DP's Sweeney leads Lady Stags past Clarkston

The Deer Park softball team ran its modest winning streak to three with a doubleheader sweep of Clarkston on Friday.
The Lady Stags defeated the Bantams 11-1, 9-2 to run their Great Northern League record to 3-3.
Deer Park pitcher Kylie Sweeney did most of the damage in the first game with her right arm and bat. The sophomore limited the Bantams to only one hit, a solo home run by catcher Morgan Alivert in the second inning.

DPMS's Hodgson wins state archery championship

Deer Park Middle School seventh grader Brent Hodgson placed first in the male middle school division at the recent Washington National Archery in the Schools’ state championship in Ellensburg.
The 24-member DPMS archery squad took third while eighth grader Natasha Root placed ninth in the female middle school division.
On March 22, DPMS sent a team of 24 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students to compete. Students qualified through a “mini tournament” held in the health and fitness classes and only the top 12 boys and girls made the team.

Rams handle Stags in soccer opener

The Riverside soccer team, unleashing a dominating attack, handled the Deer Park Stags 4-0 on Monday in the season opener for both schools.
The Rams, who out shot the Stags 11-6, jumped out to an early lead on a penalty kick by Oliver Robstad at the 24-minute mark. They increased the lead to 2-0 before halftime on a goal Robyn.
The Rams added goals by Brandon Suhr and Tillman Spindeidrier in the second half while their defense, anchored by goalkeeper Wyatt Hagehann kept the Stag attack bottled up in their own end.

Rams take care of Goats, head to regionals

It understandable if the Chelan Mountain Goats never but heads again this season with the Riverside Rams.
The Mountain Goats, which saw their football state championship aspirations disappear with an opening round playoff loss to the Rams in November, saw the same fate befall their boys basketball team on Saturday.
The Rams, who never trailed in the loser-out bi-district playoff game, eliminated the Goats 39-28. Riverside (20-5) will head to regional playoff action next weekend.

Strong fourth quarter carries Stags past Eagles

The Deer Park Stags got a rebound basket by Travis Pierce and three free throws to hold off the West Valley Eagles 52-45 on Friday.
The Eagles had cut the Stags’ lead to 47-45 on a three-point play by Brennen Folkins with 1:19 to play. Pierce answered with a put-back basket and Deer Park iced the game with free throws by Canyon Nielson, Avery Miller and Nathan Guske.
The win improved the Stags’ Great Northern League record to 2-5 and 6-9 overall. West Valley fell to 3-3, 10-4.

Colville squeezes past Deer Park in wrestling showdown

The Colville wrestling team, which has spent the past two years chasing the Deer Park Stags, finally caught its Great Northern League rival on Wednesday.
The Indians, the top ranked Class 2A team in the state, got a first period pin from 113-pound Alex Linn to defeat the Stags 38-32.
It was a match where neither team could build any sizeable lead.
The Indians’ biggest lead of 20-14 came after Ryley Smith defeated Jacob Boswell in the 182-pound match. The Stags’ biggest lead of 26-20 came when 195-pound Trevor Eicher, making his season debut, needed only 37 seconds to pin Spencer Frank.

Fast-starting Stags best Blackhawks

The Deer Park Stags built an early 16-0 lead on their way to a 44-30 Great Northern League wrestling win over Cheney on Wednesday.
Tysen Jorgensen got the ball rolling with first period pin over Sam Hobbs in the 126-pound match. His victory was followed by a 13-3 win by Dean Lockwood over the Blackhawks’ Cameron Wiseman and a first-period pin by Brandon Field over Francisco Martinez.
Cheney narrowed the margin to 28-18 before 220-pound Cody Devore scored a pin of Jacob Hill to give Deer Park an almost insurmountable lead.

Taller Stags hold off Cougars

The Deer Park Stags, helped by five Nate Guske free throws in the fourth quarter, slid past Chewelah 61-57 on Tuesday.
Deer Park head coach Chad Hand, who was not pleased with all aspects of his team’s performance, said he would take the victory in the Stags’ home opener.
The Stags (2-1) broke a 41-41 tie late in third quarter and held off numerous charges by the Cougars down the stretch. Two Guske free throws were followed by offensive rebound basket by Canyon Nielson to increase the Deer Park lead to 58-47 before Chewelah’s Mckenzie Miller hit a 3-pointer to keep the Cougars close.

Chewelah buries DP girls with second half surge

The Chewelah girls basketball team used a 13-0 run in the third quarter to surge past the Deer Park Lady Stags 47-20 on Tuesday.
Leading 18-15 at halftime, the Lady Cougars (1-2) used their strength underneath the basket to pull away from the Lady Stags (0-3), who were held to only one field goal in the third quarter, an offensive rebound by Siera English with 40 seconds left in the quarter.
