John W. Melville, 83

November 22, 2011

John William Melville, 83 years of life, a resident of Deer Park and formerly of Valley, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011.
He is the dear husband of Virginia Malek and the loving father of Cheryl Farley and Dave Melville of Newport and Ron Melville of Chattaroy. His brothers are Robert Melville of Spokane and Gerald Melville of Valley. John enjoyed numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marian J. Dierks, 69

Private urn placement will take place at a later date for former Chattaroy resident Marian J. (Middleton) Dierks, 69, who passed away on Nov. 11 at her Spokane Valley home.
Born on Aug. 12, 1942, to Loren and Eva Middleton in Spokane, she attended Riverside High School. She later worked as a waitress, cook, and baked for several establishments, nursing homes, and retirement homes.
She married James D. Dierks in 1985.
Mrs. Dierks enjoyed planting flowers, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, fishing, and going to her grandchildren's soccer and baseball games, and "Hoopfest" every year.

William J. Blatt, 79

A celebration of life was held on Nov. 18 at the Marysville (Wash.) Free Methodist Church for former Springdale resident William "Bill" J. Blatt, 79, who passed away on Nov. 9.
Born on Oct. 3, 1932, in Springdale to Charles and Mae Blatt, he worked for Western Electric for 22 years and GTE for 15 years before retiring in 1993.
He was preceded in death by a son, Frederick C. Blatt; and a granddaughter, Heather Heimbigner.

Donald E. Lenhard, 85

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Lauer Funeral Home, Deer Park, with the Rev. Jerrod Williams officiating, for former longtime Deer Park resident Donald E. Lenhard, 85, who passed away on Nov. 11.
Born in 1926 in Colfax, Wash., to the late Harold and Mary Ellen Lenhard, he graduated from Deer Park High School in 1943 and later attended Gonzaga University, the University of Washington and Washington State College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Lloyd Haglund, 82

A memorial service will be held on Nov. 11, at the Phoenix (Ariz.) Christian Reformed Church for former Deer Park teacher Lloyd Haglund, 82.
Born on Aug. 12, 1929, to the late Bert and Eleanor Haglund in Warroad, Minn., he lived in various places in Minnesota until 1944 when his family moved to Spokane.
He graduated from Rogers High School in 1946 and later worked at Sears and served in the Air Force, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Mr. Haglund also did long haul trucking.

Donald L. Boucher, 69

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Nov. 12 at St. Mary’s Presentation Catholic Church, E602 Sixth St., Deer Park, for Deer Park resident Donald L. Boucher, 69, who passed away on Sept. 5,while he was camping in the Blue Mountains.
Born on Jan. 14, 1942 in Oklee, Minn., to Irene (Hince) and Harvey Boucher, and was raised in Yakima since 1947.

Ruth E. Conley, 86

A private memorial services will be held at a later date for longtime Elk resident Ruth E. (Owens) Conley, 86, who passed away on Oct. 21.
Born on May 12, 1925, to the late Claude and Zella Owens in Fargo, N.D., she was an avid gardener who loved especially her pansies and gladioli. She was also a devoted piano player.
Her husband, Perry, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her five children, Perry, Marcella, Marion, Paul (Susie) and Melvin, all of the Spokane area; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, Spokane, was in charge of arrangements.

Carol M. Betz, 78

Funeral Services were held on Nov. 8 at Cheney Church of the Nazarene for former area resident Carol M. (Baker) Betz, 78, who passed away on Nov. 4 in Spokane.
She was born on May 23, 1933, to David and Ella Baker in Clayton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Betz.

Lee C. Bradford, 66

Lee C. Bradford (Aug. 14, 1945-Oct. 31, 2011) left this world on Monday, Oct. 31, and is now at peace with the Lord.
His courage and strength while taking the necessary steps to continue to be with his family after receiving his new heart was a testimony to his deep love for his wife, Renee, and children, Demica, Brianna and Hunter.
Lee was preceded in death by his mother, Jackie, and father, Lee "Pops" Bradford.

Pat Rickey Jr., 76

A memorial service was Nov. 1 at Country Church of the Open Bible in Elk for longtime Elk resident Pat Rickey Jr., 76, who passed away on Oct. 25 in Spokane.
Born on Oct. 1, 1935, to the late Patrick Sr. and Leona (Flanders) Rickey at the family home in Spokane, the family moved to Chattaroy, where he and his three sisters were raised and attended school. Following high school, he worked as a mechanic at Madren Brothers in Hillyard and then moved to the sales of Studebakers, Internationals and eventually Toyotas.
