Myrna R. Walters, 80

December 13, 2011

A graveside funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the Woodland Cemetery, Deer Park, with the Rev. Richard Finch officiating, for longtime Denison area resident Myrna R. Walters, 80, who passed away on Dec. 3.
A reception will follow the service at the Deer Park Eagles Lodge, W12 South Ave.
Born in Onaway, Idaho, the family moved to Spokane when she was a child. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1949 and later from beauty school.

Chanin D. Starbuck, 42

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 10 at the Riverside Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Bishop Bryon Wiltse officiating, for Deer Park resident Chanin D. Starbuck, 42.
Born in 1969 at Anderson, Ind., she graduated from Lake Mary (Fla.) High School and attended Florida State University. She later earned her associate’s degree in art therapy from Seminole State College.
Mrs. Starbuck, who lived in Orlando, Fla., and Alaska before moving to Deer Park, recently graduated from dental assistant's school in Spokane.

Carol D. Brooks, 68

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 17 the Tri-County Christian Center, E320 “H” St., Deer Park, with the Rev. Timothy White officiating, for Springdale resident Carol D. Brooks, 68, who passed away on Dec. 7.
Born in Clovis, N.M., in 1943, she married Sonny Brooks in 1959. Mrs. Brooks worked many years as a certified nursing assistant in nursing homes and in home health care services in Colorado and Washington. After her and her husband's retirement, they moved to Springdale in 1998.
She was a member of the Tri-County Christian Center.

Phyllis M Welch, 88

A small private service is planned at a later date for former Deer Lake resident Phyllis M. (Williams) Welch, 88, who passed away on Nov. 30.
Born on Dec. 6, 1922, in Rapid City, S.D., to Henry Clark Williams and Adeline Maude Williams (Jolly), she married Harold Stanley Welch from Deer Park on Jan.18, 1947.
She was librarian for Connell School District and served as mayor of Hatton, smallest town in Washington with 75 residents at that time, from 1979–83. She and her husband retired to Deer Lake for 25 years until health reasons moved them to Pasco, Wash., in 2005.

Donald R. Springer, 85

December 2, 2011

A graveside service was held on Dec. 3 at the East Prosser (Wash.) Cemetery for former Deer Park resident/businessman Donald R. Springer, 85, who passed away on Nov. 29 in Richland, Wash.
Born to Carl Clinton and Frances May (Read) Springer on Oct. 26, 1926, in Kelso, Wash., he attended Deer Park High School and entered the Naval Reserve at the age of 17.

Sheryl K. Cook, 55

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 16 at The Church of the Nazarene, N9004 Country Homes Blvd, Spokane, for Deer Park resident Sheryl K. (Evans) Cook, 55, who passed away on Nov. 11.
Born on Sept. 30, 1956, in Whittier, Calif. as the second child of WD "Dub" and Woodene Evans, the family moved to the Spokane area in 1966. She graduated from Riverside High School in 1974.

Veryl L. Kellmer, 83

A funeral service was held on Nov. 30 at the Deer Park Church of the Nazarene for longtime Clayton resident Veryl L. Kellmer, 83, who passed away on Nov. 25.
Among his survivors is his wife of 63 years, Dolores.

Harold M. Eickmeyer, 85

December 1, 2011

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Dec. 3 at Spokane Memorial Garden, S.5909 Cheney Road, for former Wild Rose Prairie resident Harold M. “Ike” Eickmeyer, 85, who passed away on Nov. 20 in Yuma, Ariz.
Born on Aug. 27, 1926, in Spokane to Martin and Helen (Proctor) Eickmeyer, he was raised on his parents' Wild Rose Prairie farm and graduated from Mead High School. He served in the Air Corps in World War II and he met his wife of 65 years, Louella (Redetske) Eickmeyer while stationed in Kansas. They operated a gas station in Great Bend, Kan., prior to moving to Spokane.

James E. DeFreese, 79

December 1, 2011

Interment will be held this summer at Peone Cemetery in Mead for Spokane Deer Lake resident James E. DeFreese, 79, who passed away on Nov. 22.
Born on Feb. 25, 1932, to the late Bill and Vera DeFreese, he was captain of the Mead High School 1949 football team and graduated from MHS in 1950.
Mr. DeFreese established DeFreese Roofing and ran it successfully for almost 50 years. He and his crew roofed many Spokane area homes built in the 1950s through the 1990s.
He married Jaclyn S. Bartleson in 1950 and although they later divorced, they remained lifelong friends.

Carl C. Ward, 78

November 29, 2011

Carl Calvin Ward, 78. was born on May 26, 1933, and went to be with the Lord on Nov. 20, 2011.
He is survived by his nephews and nieces, Tom and Sherry Ward, Tammie and Brandy Smith; great-nephews and great-nieces, Josh and Jen Rivas, Amanda Ward and Cory Ward, along with three great-great-nieces, one great-great-nephew and lots of friends.
Please join us for a celebration of his life at 1 p.m. on Dec 3, 2011, at the Deer Park Community Arts Center (across from Deer Park City Hall, E316 Crawford). Please bring your favorite dish and help us celebrate Uncle Carl's life.
