Drivers will get their first chance to try out a new connection between U.S. Highway 395 and the northern half of the 10-mile North Spokane Corridor (NSC)on June 13.
Construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) built two gracefully curving bridges at the north end of the route (near the Wandermere Golf Course) and completed a four-lane section of divided concrete freeway linking the NSC with U.S. 395. A fully paved pedestrian and bicycle path parallels the new freeway, connecting to other trails along the route.

(Updated May 20)Washington State Patrol investigators who thought more than one person may have been involved in a fatal one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 395 on Friday morning, now believe the driver was alone in the pickup truck.
According to the WSP, 19-year-old Jesse Cox was southbound on the highway between Hatch and Monroe roads at around 5:45 a.m. when he left the roadway and rolled a couple of times before it came to rest in a backyard of a home on Ballard Road.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene they found a body that had been apparently ejected from the vehicle.

The hand recount of the Riverside School District maintenance and operations levy did not change the outcome of the $2.9 million a year measure.

Five Riverside School District voters petitioned to have the ballots hand counted. Chattaroy’s Leonard Terzenbach paid $1,083 for the recount, based on a cost of 25 cents a ballot.

Certification of the Riverside School District’s maintenance and operations levy has been placed on hold while the Spokane County Elections Office staff conducts a hand recount on the more than 4,300 ballots cast in the April 17 election.
Five school district voters submitted a petition along with the $1,000 fee on April 30 to have the ballots hand counted this week.
In the first round of ballot tabulations (done by machines), the levy, which will generate about $2.88 million from local property tax assessments, passed 2,161-2,150.
