It’s all over but the shouting or, in the case of Eric Keller, the celebrating.
Keller, an incumbent Deer Park School Board member, had been in tight race with challenger Marie Layman since the first round of general election voting tabulations on Nov. 8.
The election was certified on Nov. 29 by the Spokane, Stevens and Pend Oreille County Election offices with Keller named the winner 1,395-1,351despite Layman’s strong showing in Spokane County.
November 23rd
On Sept. 16, 1987, Julie Weflen disappeared while doing work at a Bonneville Power Administration substation near Seven Mile. The 28-year-old Deer Park woman was never seen again.
Now, Spokane County Sheriff’s detectives hope her long forgotten work storage locker will yield some clues of her whereabouts.

November 22nd
Area voters went to the polls in stronger numbers than residents in other parts of Spokane County and throughout the state, according to statistics released by the Spokane County Elections Office.
All told, 151,697 ballots were returned to the elections office for the 2011 general election, which relates to a 57.02 percent voter turnout.
The Stevens County turnout was 58.19 percent, while the statewide average is 43.43 percent, down from 50.9 percent in the last off-year election, 2009.
John William Melville, 83 years of life, a resident of Deer Park and formerly of Valley, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011.
He is the dear husband of Virginia Malek and the loving father of Cheryl Farley and Dave Melville of Newport and Ron Melville of Chattaroy. His brothers are Robert Melville of Spokane and Gerald Melville of Valley. John enjoyed numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private urn placement will take place at a later date for former Chattaroy resident Marian J. (Middleton) Dierks, 69, who passed away on Nov. 11 at her Spokane Valley home.
Born on Aug. 12, 1942, to Loren and Eva Middleton in Spokane, she attended Riverside High School. She later worked as a waitress, cook, and baked for several establishments, nursing homes, and retirement homes.
She married James D. Dierks in 1985.
Mrs. Dierks enjoyed planting flowers, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, fishing, and going to her grandchildren's soccer and baseball games, and "Hoopfest" every year.
A celebration of life was held on Nov. 18 at the Marysville (Wash.) Free Methodist Church for former Springdale resident William "Bill" J. Blatt, 79, who passed away on Nov. 9.
Born on Oct. 3, 1932, in Springdale to Charles and Mae Blatt, he worked for Western Electric for 22 years and GTE for 15 years before retiring in 1993.
He was preceded in death by a son, Frederick C. Blatt; and a granddaughter, Heather Heimbigner.
November 16th
A funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Lauer Funeral Home, Deer Park, with the Rev. Jerrod Williams officiating, for former longtime Deer Park resident Donald E. Lenhard, 85, who passed away on Nov. 11.
Born in 1926 in Colfax, Wash., to the late Harold and Mary Ellen Lenhard, he graduated from Deer Park High School in 1943 and later attended Gonzaga University, the University of Washington and Washington State College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
November 13th
The Ellensburg Bulldogs did something on Saturday that no other team was able to do this fall: slow down the Deer Park Stag offense.
The Stags, who averaged 36.6 points per game during the regular season, were held to fourth quarter touchdown in the opening round of the state Class 2A playoffs on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (9-3) , who defeated Cheney 36-35 in overtime in a play-in game on Nov. 8, will now move on to play Prosser following the 21-7 win. The Stags finished their most successful campaign in school history with a 9-2 record.
November 12th
The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate a three-car head-on accident on U.S. Highway 395 near Clayton on Friday that left 56-year-old Spokane man dead.
The accident, near the Williams Valley Road intersection, occurred at around 5:20 p.m. and fully blocked the southbound lane of the highway.
According to the Washington State Patrol, David Robison tried to enter the highway at the Williams Valley Road intersection and was struck by southbound car driven by Andrea K. Hansen of Chewelah. Hansen’s car then struck a northbound pickup truck driven by a Deer Park teenager.
November 11th
Deer Park Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3067 gave the Gulf War Memorial at the city’s Bluebird Park a new lease on life on Friday.
The post, through financial and material donations and volunteer labor, revamped the memorial to honor the armed forces the members of the armed forces who were killed or injured in various wars since 1776.
Former VFW Commander Jay Wood hopes the new memorial will make Deer Park known as the “City of Honor and Remembrance.”
