Extra law enforcement patrolling Spokane, Whitman, Pend Oreille and Ferry County roads between May 19-June 1 wrote 286 seatbelt infractions were written, in addition to 70 cell phone/texting tickets.
Last year officers "Click-it-or-Ticket" patrols wrote 297 seat belt infractions and 101 cell phone/texting violations.
In addition, five DUIs, one felony and three misdemeanor warrant arrests, 100 speeding violations, 15 child passenger safety infractions as well as 77 uninsured motorists and 43 suspended/revoked license violations were issued this year.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today the following status updates in fire danger rating for the listed counties.
Effective at 12:01 a.m. on June 12, the following changes will be implemented:
â€¢ The fire danger will increase from â€˜lowâ€™ to â€˜moderateâ€™ in Spokane, Okanogan, and Northern Lincoln counties, and Stevens County Fire District 1 and 2.
â€¢The fire danger will remain â€˜lowâ€™ in Pend Oreille, Ferry and Stevens counties, outside of fire districts 1 and 2.
Arnim Roland "Ole" Olsen, 53, passed away at his home on May 30 after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Olsen; two sisters, Monika Olsen, and Sonja Rey; and a niece, Roseanna Rey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elfi and Wesley Olsen. "Ole," as he was known by friends, loved fishing, the great outdoors and working the family farm.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
Alfred Leroy Griffin, 82, SFC, United States Army (ret.) and a longtime resident of Deer Park passed away on June 7, 2014.
Al and his wife, Luitgard, owned and operated Griffinâ€™s Furniture and Alâ€™s Restaurant on U.S. Highway near Riverside High School for many years.
He was an avid bowler.
Memorial services will be held in Deer Park at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, S.214 Weber Road, with the Rev. Steven Brehmer officiating.
Lauer Funeral Home, Deer Park, will be in charge of arrangements.
Audrey (Oiland) Forkner, 78, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2014, at her home in Spokane.
Three people were injured in a two-car accident at the U.S. Highway 395 and Crawford Avenue intersection on Wednesday afternoon.
None of the names of the persons involved in the accident were immediately released.
The driver and passenger in one of the vehicles, a minivan, suffered minor injuries and were taken to a Spokane hospital as a precautionary measure. An infant in the minivan was unhurt.
The driver of the other car, who needed to be cut of the vehicle by emergency crews, also sustained minor injuries.
A private family service is planned for longtime Chattaroy resident Joyce Cox, 89, who passed away on May 27, 2014, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
Born on Jan. 13, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Deer Park.
Two sons, Michael and Danny, predeceased her.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Cox; one daughter, Cathie (Rick) Torres; one son, Tom Cox II; one daughter-in-law, Lorayne Cox; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Betty June Kiser was born on March 19, 1928, in Lewiston, Mont. And entered into rest on May 26, 2014.
She was the daughter of Ivan Merle and Edna May (Klingler) Gordy. She was the oldest of five children, including Donna, Eugene, Sandy and Michael.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Lowell Adelbert Kiser.
Deer Parkâ€™s Catelyn Frost placed 38th at last weekâ€™s state Class 2A golf tournament at The Classic Golf Club in
Frost, the first Lady Stag to make the first round cut, shot a 103-111 over the par 72 course. Teammate Sierra Lewis did not qualify for the final round after shooting a 114 last Wednesday.
Fifeâ€™s Kendall Gray won the individual championship with a 79-80=159 showing over the two days.
Defending champion Bellingham won the team title with 98, easily outdistancing runner-up Hockinsonâ€™s 73 score.
Deer Park did not qualify anyone for the boysâ€™ tournament.
Charlotte Susan (Ochs) Hudson, 68 years of life, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Sacred Heart Hospital from complications of abdominal surgery.
Charlotte was born on Dec. 14, 1945 in Colfax, Wash., to Virgil and Elizabeth Ochs. Being an only child she was a bit spoiled, but she had a wonderful childhood and was very close to her parents who both have preceded her in death.
