Lady Rams earn NE-A softball tourney's No. 2 seed

The Riverside High School softball team clinched the upcoming District VII tournament’s second seed with a 6-3 win over the Medical Lake Cardinals on Saturday in the final game of the regular season.
Having lost the lost the first game of the doubleheader 6-4, Saturday’s second game set up a showdown where the winner would earn the second seed and a first round bye in the district tournament.
The Lady Rams (14-4) struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning, highlighted by RBI from Kyra Phillips and Kendra Aronson.

Esther E. Luce, 95

May 10, 2014

Esther Luce passed away peacefully on May 7, 2014, at the age of 95.
She was born on Dec 5, 1918, to Mary and Charles Wright in Lapwai, Idaho. Esther was the second of five children; Jessie, Esther, Calvin, Janie and Francis. Francis Hawk is her only remaining sibling.
She was preceded in death also by her parents; her husband, Isaac; her son, Larry Luce; and one grandson, Brad Yochum.

Tribune columnist wins NOWA awards

Longtime Deer Park Tribune columnist Alan Liere received a pair of “Excellence of Craft” awards at the The Northwest Outdoor Writer's Association (NOWA) at the group’s annual conference in Polson, Mont., on April 26.
Liere earned a third place award in the column of the year category for his “Scratches on the Wall” column in the Tribune. He also earned a third place award in the fishing article category for his Tribune story “A Day on the Ice.”

DP's Cartee earns three Riverside Invite medals

Deer Park’s Anna Cartee took home a trio of championships at Friday’s Riverside Twilight Invitational.
The junior won the 100 hurdles with a 15.84 performance and later captured the long jump title with a 15-foot, 8-5-inch effort and the triple jump championship at 35-10.75.
The triple jump effort set a new meet record, besting the old mark by more than an inch.
Helped by Cartee’s championships, the Lady Stags placed third in the final team standings, trailing champion Lakeside and Colfax.

DP's community float unveiled

Miss Deer Park Kelli Hughes and Princesses Joanna Goodner and Kelcie Lenz showed off this year's community float on Wednesday night. The float, entitled "Burnin' Love," will take part in the Wenatchee Apple Blossom Parade on Saturday afternoon.

Power laden Lady Stags crush Greyhounds

The Deer Park softball team, after spotting Pullman a pair of first inning runs, quickly regrouped to score a 10-2 Great Northern League win on Tuesday.
The Lady Stags quickly tied the game with two runs of their own in the first inning and took the lead for good in the third on a double by catcher Carlie Durgeloh and an RBI single by pitcher Kylie Sweeney.

Dale A. Daniels Sr., 63

April 28, 2014

Dale Alan Daniels Sr., 63, passed away on Jan. 22, 2014, in Spokane. Dale suffered a short battle with lung cancer and passed peacefully with his family by his side.
Dale was born in Lansing, Mich., to the late Virgil Daniels and Lillian (Wallace) Daniels.
Dale is survived by his significant other, Lynette Clark of Spokane; two stepsons, Chris Clark (Erin) of Spokane Valley and Joshua Beckley (Xeina) of Clayton.

DP's Joe Grable heading to NCU

Deer Park’s Joe Grable, who capped off his prep wrestling career with his second state Class 2A championship in February, has signed a letter of intent to wrestle at Northern Colorado University next season.
Grable joins Central Valley High School’s Colton Orrino in the NCU program in 2014-15.
Grable finished his senior season with a 37-2 overall record and a career record of 147-16, giving him the school record for victories.

Sandra K. Woods, 65

April 25, 2014

Sandra K. “Sande” Woods, 65, is survived by her husband, John Woods of Chattaroy; daughters, Janee Kay Barlow (Jeremy) and Caitlyn Ann Klemish (Jesse); granddaughters, Emery Kay Barlow, Hailey Ann and Bella Kay Klemish; a brother, David Herrboldt (Cindy); and a sister, Darlene of Elk River, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helga Herrboldt.

McMorris Rodgers to seek a sixth term

U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers announced her plans on Monday to seek a sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
McMorris Rodgers represents the state’s 5th Congressional District, which encompasses most of Eastern Washington.
A Kettle Falls native, McMorris Rodgers represented the 7th District in the Legislature before being elected to Congress in 2004, succeeding George Nethercutt.
Chair of the House Republican Conference, McMorris Rodgers is currently the highest ranking Republican woman in Congress.
