Power laden Lady Stags crush Greyhounds

The Deer Park softball team, after spotting Pullman a pair of first inning runs, quickly regrouped to score a 10-2 Great Northern League win on Tuesday.
The Lady Stags quickly tied the game with two runs of their own in the first inning and took the lead for good in the third on a double by catcher Carlie Durgeloh and an RBI single by pitcher Kylie Sweeney.

Dale A. Daniels Sr., 63

April 28, 2014

Dale Alan Daniels Sr., 63, passed away on Jan. 22, 2014, in Spokane. Dale suffered a short battle with lung cancer and passed peacefully with his family by his side.
Dale was born in Lansing, Mich., to the late Virgil Daniels and Lillian (Wallace) Daniels.
Dale is survived by his significant other, Lynette Clark of Spokane; two stepsons, Chris Clark (Erin) of Spokane Valley and Joshua Beckley (Xeina) of Clayton.

DP's Joe Grable heading to NCU

Deer Park’s Joe Grable, who capped off his prep wrestling career with his second state Class 2A championship in February, has signed a letter of intent to wrestle at Northern Colorado University next season.
Grable joins Central Valley High School’s Colton Orrino in the NCU program in 2014-15.
Grable finished his senior season with a 37-2 overall record and a career record of 147-16, giving him the school record for victories.

Sandra K. Woods, 65

April 25, 2014

Sandra K. “Sande” Woods, 65, is survived by her husband, John Woods of Chattaroy; daughters, Janee Kay Barlow (Jeremy) and Caitlyn Ann Klemish (Jesse); granddaughters, Emery Kay Barlow, Hailey Ann and Bella Kay Klemish; a brother, David Herrboldt (Cindy); and a sister, Darlene of Elk River, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helga Herrboldt.

McMorris Rodgers to seek a sixth term

U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers announced her plans on Monday to seek a sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
McMorris Rodgers represents the state’s 5th Congressional District, which encompasses most of Eastern Washington.
A Kettle Falls native, McMorris Rodgers represented the 7th District in the Legislature before being elected to Congress in 2004, succeeding George Nethercutt.
Chair of the House Republican Conference, McMorris Rodgers is currently the highest ranking Republican woman in Congress.

Mary Walker plans nighttime grad ceremony

Due to the conflict with the spring sports state competition schedule (baseball, softball and track) on May 31, the Mary Walker School Board has moved that day’s graduation ceremony to 9 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Having the graduation ceremony later in the evening allows those athletes who may become eligible for state competition to compete and then participate in the graduation ceremony. The board decision was made after meeting with the parents of the graduating class.

Laslo eager to return to work

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Laslo is still recovering from injuries received after being attacked by a pit bull while he and his partner, Deputy Jeff Thurman, where investigating a burglary and assault on April 7 in Spokane Valley.
Thurman said Laslo was scheduled to have surgery earlier this week but over the weekend, Laslo’s condition improved significantly and the surgery was cancelled.
He added that Laslo is finding it hard to sit still as he recovers and every morning runs out to Thurman’s patrol car and puts his nose to the door handle expecting to go to work.

Pair of Easter egg hunts planned for Deer Park

A pair of Deer Park area Easter egg hunts are planned for Saturday morning.
Yoke’s Fresh Market and the Open Door Congregational Church have teamed up for a hunt at the church, N205 Main St., at 9:30 a.m.
Eagle Aerie No. 3564 will hold its annual hunt at 11 a.m. at Mix Park.
Organizers of both events remind participants to arrive early.

No slowing down Deer Park's Eicher

Deer Park High School sophomore Trevor Eicher, who steam rolled the 182-pound competition in winning the state Class 2A title at Mat Classic XXVI in February, has not slowed down this spring.
Eicher has won four more titles in the past two months, including the prestigious Reno Worlds last week.
In March, Eicher, representing the Deer Park Ironman Wrestling Club, won the 195-pound junior title at the Twin City-3 Styles Greco Tournament in Chellis, Wash. He dispatched his four opponents by a combined 42-6 score.

Richard L. Bond, 94

April 15, 2014

Walla Walla resident Richard L. Bond, 94, passed away on April 5, 2014, at Matty’s Home Care in Walla Walla.
Mr. Bond was born on June 3, 1919, in Spokane to Dwight A. and Vida Burroughs Bond. He graduated from North Center High School.
