Rams hope to stay hot with trip to Freeman

The Riverside Rams, riding a three-game winning streak, will face its toughest opponent so far when they travel to Freeman for a 7 p.m. game on Friday.
The Scotties (1-0 in Northeast A League play and 4-0 overall) are the consensus pick to the win the league title. So far, the Scotties have outscored their opponents, including to Class 2A schools 143-12.
Freeman is coming off a 42-0 win over Newport last week. It was the Scotties second straight shutout.
The Freeman attack is led by quarterback Preston Hoppman and the running back tandem of Max Laib and Markus Goldbach.

Stags open GNL season at Pullman

The Deer Park Stags will have to find a way to slow down the home-standing Pullman Greyhounds in their Great Northern League opener on Friday.
The Greyhounds, which opened their GNL season last week with a come-from-behind 29-26 win over Cheney, are averaging more than 31 points per game.
The only blemish on their 3-1 season is a 40-14 loss to Freeman in week two.
Pullman is led by quarterback Mason Petrino and wide receiver David Ungerer.
The Stags (1-3) are hoping to avoid a four-game losing streak, which would be the longest since the 2006 season.

Daniel R. Goehring, 50

A benefit will be held at 5 p.m. on Oct. 12 at The Mulz Shed, N37011 Newport Highway, Chattaroy, for lifetime area resident Daniel R. Goehring, 50, who passed away on Sept. 26 in Elk.
Mr. Goehring was born on Dec. 2, 1962, in Spokane.
He is survived by his wife, Shelley Persyn; three children, Daniel Goehring, Jordan Persyn and Jennifer (Marc) Hathaway; one brother, Allen Goehring; and two grandchildren, Gavin and Gage Hathaway.
The family requests memorials be made to Shelley Persyn and Daniel Goehring.

Burglars steal $11,000 worth of property from Elk home

Spokane County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a burglary in the Elk area on Oct. 1 where more than $11,000 worth of property was stolen.
Deputy Michael Beckman responded to a residential burglary call near the 35000 block of Newport Hwy. The deputy spoke with the homeowner who told him he had recently inherited the house.
The homeowner said he had not been there in a couple weeks and when he came by on Tuesday he discovered that someone had broken into the detached garage and residence.

Deputies seek burglary suspect

October 1, 2013

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary in north Spokane County. The person pictured is believed to have cashed a check and used identification stolen during the robbery. Could Deer Park be home for missing canine

A nationwide search for a 2-year-old Yellow Labrador has landed in Deer Park.
First Lt. Brandon Harker, who lives in Lakewood, Wash., has been searching for Oakley since he returned from Afghanistan earlier this year.
Harker left Oakley with a friend while deployed in the Mideast. Upon his return to Joint Base Lewis McChord near Seattle, he discovered his friend had disposed of the dog.
With very little clues on Oakley’s whereabouts, Harker has been working tirelessly to try and find his dog, including a post on Craigslist describing his pet.

Sasha Davison, 23

A funeral service will be noon on Saturday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, N9706 Division, Spokane, for Deer Park resident Sasha Davison, 23, who passed away on Sept. 30.
A reception will follow the service at the Davison Ranch on Sherman Road.

Betty J. Lynch, 82

September 30, 2013

Betty Jane Stansbury Lynch, 82, was born to Herman C. and Edna A. (Liddle) Stansbury on Jan. 21, 1931, in Spokane. She graduated from Deer Park High School with the Class of 1949 where her picture now hangs in the Deer Park City Hall.
Betty married her soul mate, Jesse G. "Junior" Lynch, Jr., in 1949 at the Coeur d'Alene Hitching Post which lasted nearly 60 years. Their home was always open to family and friends.

Rams prepare for showdown with Cardinals

The Riverside Rams and Medical Lake Cardinals, both 1-0 after the first week of Northeast A League play, will meet 7 p.m. Friday at RHS.
The Rams used a strong defensive effort in the second half to get by the Kettle Bulldogs 27-21 last week. The Cardinals used an offensive explosion in the second half to past Newport 35-20 on Sept. 20.
Jacob Collins rushed for 150 yards in the win against KF. It was his second straight 100-plus yard effort on the ground.
The Cardinals also feature a workhorse in the backfield. Fullback Jackson Tappero accounted for 202 total yards against Newport.

Lillie M. Gibson, 82

September 26, 2013

Lillie Mae Gibson, 82 years of life and a very longtime resident of Deer Park, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013.
Lillie is the dear wife of Bob Gibson.
Mrs. Gibson's funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, in Deer Park at the Open Door Congregational Church followed with a gathering of family and friends at Lamm’s Reception Center on Spotted Road, just north of Bob and Lillie's ranch.
Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park, will be in charge of arrangements.
