A memorial service will held at 10 a.m. on March 17 at Thornhill Valley Funeral Chapel for former Elk resident Joe â€śCrazy Joeâ€ť Begovich, 84, who passed away on March 13, 2012.
Born on Sept. 24, 1927, in Rock Springs, Wy., to Marko and Evanka Begovich, the family moved to Elk when he was 6 years old. He attended school at Elk Grade School and Riverside High School. He joined the Navy after high school for two years of active duty and continued as a Naval Reservist for another 18 years.
Mr. Begovich was employed as a truck driver for P.I.E for 40 years.
Almost 25 years after her disappearance, Bonneville Power Administration and local law enforcement officials continue to search for clues in an effort to discover what happened to Deer Parkâ€™s Julie Weflen.
In an attempt to generate leads in the case, BPA is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in Weflen's disappearance.
Riversideâ€™s Derrick â€śDeweyâ€ť Bender, who finished his prep wrestling career with a Class 1A state championship in the 220-pound classification, scored a few more wins at the ORCA Duals last weekend in Ashland, Ore.

Born in 1928 in Colfax, she attended Colfax Grade School and graduated from Riverside High School in 1946. She worked briefly as a telephone operator.
A former president of the Elk Grade School PTA, she was a member of the Congregational Church and founder and member of the Elk Homemakers.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. on March 13 at the Wild Rose Prairie Cemetery, with the Rev. Gene Gentry officiating, for longtime Denison area resident Margaret L. Barnett, 93, who passed away on March 7, 2012.
Born on Nov. 17, 1918, to the late Guy and Frances Underwood at Port Orchard, Wash., her family moved to the Okanogan area when she was a child. She graduated from Okanogan High School in 1936. She served as Okanoganâ€™s royal representative to the Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival in 1936.
The Loon Lake School District will join the Deer Park and Riverside School districts in running a maintenance and operations levy election on April 17.
Unlike the other two levy measures, the Loon Lake four-year $226,000 request was not run earlier this year.
If approved, the Loon Lake request will cost property owners 63 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The generated funds will be used for various educational programs â€” such as music and physical education â€” the food service department, technology, grounds improvement and non-high payments.
Alarmed by the growing number of burglaries and vehicle prowlings in the rural areas of Spokane County, the sheriff's department asks residents to take additional precautions.
Burglaries and vehicle prowlings have increased 53 percent for the months of January and February 2012 as compared to 2011.

Area football teams have released their 2012 football schedules to reflect the new look Great Northern and Northeast A leagues.
The Deer Park Stags, the defending GNL champions, will open their season at Chewelah on Aug. 31. It will be the fifth straight year the Stags have opened the season against the Cougars in a non-league game.
Riverside will open its season on Aug. 31 at Timberlake, The Tigers defeated the Rams 17-6 in last yearâ€™s season opener.
The Stags and Rams will face off against each other on Sept. 7 at Riverside.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. on March 10 at the Riverside Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, N34221 Newport Highway, Chattaroy, for area resident Richard Montgomery.
He was born on April 11, 1932, to Andrew C. Montgomery and Mable A. Montgomery in Snoqualmie Falls, Wash.
Mr. Montgomery was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A son, Ronald Delbert, predeceased him.
