Phyllis L Fetcho, 83

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. on March 14 at the Peaceful Valley Church on Allen Road in Elk, with the Rev. Jim Trull officiating, for former Elk resident Phyllis L. Fetcho, 83, who passed away on March 3.
Born in 1928 in Colfax, she attended Colfax Grade School and graduated from Riverside High School in 1946. She worked briefly as a telephone operator.
A former president of the Elk Grade School PTA, she was a member of the Congregational Church and founder and member of the Elk Homemakers.

Margaret L. Barnett, 93

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. on March 13 at the Wild Rose Prairie Cemetery, with the Rev. Gene Gentry officiating, for longtime Denison area resident Margaret L. Barnett, 93, who passed away on March 7, 2012.
Born on Nov. 17, 1918, to the late Guy and Frances Underwood at Port Orchard, Wash., her family moved to the Okanogan area when she was a child. She graduated from Okanogan High School in 1936. She served as Okanogan’s royal representative to the Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival in 1936.

Loon Lake plans levy election

The Loon Lake School District will join the Deer Park and Riverside School districts in running a maintenance and operations levy election on April 17.
Unlike the other two levy measures, the Loon Lake four-year $226,000 request was not run earlier this year.
If approved, the Loon Lake request will cost property owners 63 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The generated funds will be used for various educational programs — such as music and physical education — the food service department, technology, grounds improvement and non-high payments.

Sheriff's Department worried about rise in rural burglaries

Alarmed by the growing number of burglaries and vehicle prowlings in the rural areas of Spokane County, the sheriff's department asks residents to take additional precautions.
