February 9th
Spokane County Traffic Engineers began placing weight restriction signs on affected roads throughout Spokane County on Monday. The restrictions will limit the size and weight of vehicles that are allowed to travel on specific roads throughout the county.
Sheriffâs deputies will allow a two-day pubic education period before enforcing the restrictions on Feb. 15. The fine for violating the posted weight restriction is $411.

February 8th
An investigation into the December homicide of a Deer Park woman has revealed that a call to the 911 communications center from the victimâs cellular phone was not immediately forwarded to the sheriffâs office for investigation.
Spokane County Sheriffâs Department Public Information Officer Craig Chamberlin explained that hang-up calls into the 911 center fall into two categories. A Phase One call gives the cellular phone number and the cellular tower location. A Phase Two call gives the number plus the latitude and longitude of the cellular phone.
The Deer Park Stags had no answer for Clarkstonâs inside game, especially in the first half, as the Bantams rolled to a 62-42 win on Tuesday.
Clarkstonâs power game helped the Bantams build a 15-point lead early in the second quarter.
The Stags managed to cut the lead to 36-24 on a pair of 3-pointers from Uconn Peone, only to have the Bantamsâ Drew Adams answer with a long range jumper just before intermission.
For most of the second half, the Bantams were content to play a ball control offense.
The Stagsâ last hurrah came on a Zach Mohr 3-pointer that closed the game to 45-34.
February 6th
The ex-husband of a Deer Park woman who was found murdered in her Reiper Avenue home on Dec. 3 was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree burglary in connection with her death.
Clay Starbuck was taken into custody on Monday.
Chanin Starbuckâs body was discovered following on a welfare check request from friends and family after they noticed a large amount of mail not being picked up at her home. Deputies found Starbuck's body on the bed.

Although largely unknown outside her district in Eastern Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers could be the next U.S. vice president.
First elected in 2004, McMorris Rodgers is now in her second term as vice chairman of the Republican Conference, which makes her the highest-ranking Republican woman on Capitol Hill. She has built a significant amount of behind-the-scenes clout, and has become one of her partyâs most influential leaders on issues like international bailouts, earmark reform and the fight against Obamacare.

If you believe Punxsutawney Phil, keep those snow shovels handy. If youâre Deer Parkâs groundhog (if Deer Park had one), spring is just around the corner.
Earlier today, Phil, who seems to be the countryâs preeminent groundhog, saw his shadow, meaning six more weeks of winter.
Yet, in cloudy Deer Park (3,000 miles from Philâs home) any groundhog would have a hard time seeing his shadow, meaning an early spring.
And if we need a tie-breaker, Shubenacadie Sam in Nova Scotia agrees with the Deer Park forecast.
Spokane County Sheriffâs Office major crimes detectives are assisting Fire Districts 4 and 9 with the investigation of a mobile home fire on Bull Run Road on Thursday morning.
The fire was reported at approximately 5 a.m. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, the doublewide mobile home was fully engulfed.
According to mobile home occupants there were five people who lived in the home, three adults and two children. Both children and two of the adults were able to safely exit the residence. An adult female was not able to exit the home.
February 1st
Beverly L. Swanson passed away with her family by her side in her home of 50 years on Jan. 30, 2012, after a bout with pancreatic cancer.
She graduated from Deer Park High School in 1952 and always considered Deer Park her home.
She loved quilting, gardening, scrapbooking, genealogy and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mabel Waseca; and two brothers, Frank and Jimmy Waseca.
Olive Marie Lenz, 87, passed away on Jan.30, 2012. She will be missed immensely by her family and friends because she was such a great person, wonderful mother, and loving grandmother.
Olive had seven children, all living and doing well and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Olive was born on Oct. 28, 1924, in Culbertson, Mont., and was raised in Montana with her three siblings. She was an excellent student and graduated from Plains High School.
A memorial service will held at 3 p.m. on Feb. 3 at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, N115 Raymond Road, for former Deer Park resident George R. âDickâ Ott, 69, who passed away on Jan. 29, 2012, in Spokane.
Born in Pasco and raised in Deer Park, he graduated from Deer Park High School in 1960 and later attended Spokane Community College. He spent four years in the US Army.
Possessing a lifelong love of agriculture, he spent his entire career selling fertilizer for Inland Farmers (19 years) and later for Greenacres Gypsum (20-plus years).
