World War II vet takes Honor Flight

Deer Park’s Jack Woods was among 35 area World War II veterans who were part of the Inland Northwest Honor Flight that left Spokane International Airport on Friday to see the memorial built in their honor in Washington, D.C.
The 85-year-old Woods, who enlisted in the Navy in 1943, served in the South Pacific during World War II aboard the USS Cassin Young (DD-793), which withstood several kamikaze attacks.
Woods, who later worked at Kaiser-Mead, has lived in Deer Park since 1968.

Deer Park teen to compete at national pony championships

Deer Park’s 13-year-old Colton Youngblood-Munsen is taking part in the National Pony Club Festival and Championships this week in Lexington, Ky.
Youngblood-Munsen, son of Jenny Youngblood of Deer Park, earned a spot in the national event with a win at the Stanton Farm Horse Trials last September in Deary, Idaho.
He will be competing in Kentucky with longtime companion Pistol Pete, a grey 13.1-hand Welsh pony cross. They won the Inavale Farm Horse Trials last month in the final tune-up before heading to Kentucky.

Ruth N. Robison, 80

Ruth Neoma Robison, 80, died on July 8, 2011, in Deer Park. She was born on Dec. 1, 1930 to Ethel (Lowery) and Earnest Miller in Minco, Okla. She met and married the love of her life, Bill Robison, in Campbell, Calif.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her mother, Ethel; two siblings, Jay Miller and Helen Joyce Miller; and her granddaughter, Tara Lynn Foster.

Andrew J. Downing, 67

No services are planned for Andrew J. “A.J.” Downing, 67, who passed away on July 7 at his Deer Park home.
Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, Spokane, was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests memorials be made in honor of A.J. Downing to the American Cancer Society, or the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
