The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has a person of interest in the Chanin Starbuck homicide investigation but will not immediately release the suspect’s identity as detectives continue to gather evidence.
Starbuck’s body was discovered in her Deer Park home on Dec. 3 after neighbors became concerned about the accumulation of mail in front of her house.
The Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Starbuck was strangled a few days earlier.
The Deer Park girls basketball team unleashed a strong defense and uncanny free throw shooting to defeat rival Riverside 62-48 on Dec. 13.
The Lady Stags rushed out to a 13-4 lead in the opening quarter, thanks, in part, to Tessa Heins work on the free throw line. The senior guard hit 9 of 10 free throws in the first eight minutes of the game.
The Riverside boys basketball team, sparked by the play of freshman point guard Taylor Axtell, rallied to defeat rival Deer Park 59-54 in a non-league game on Dec. 13.
The Rams, hurt by cold shooting and the Stags’ strong inside game, trailed 45-36 going into the fourth quarter.
A short time later, Axtell, who tossed in a team-high 16 points, took over. He scored seven straight points to trim the Stag lead to 47-46 with 4 minutes to play.
